When Ben Godsey, CEO at ProService Hawaii and his team decided to come up with a theme to drive referrals at the Honolulu based HR outsourcing firm, little did they know it would end up becoming such a success.

ProService Hawaii, who has been operating for more than 20 years and helps companies to hire, manage and retain qualified workers, operates 5 offices across Hawaii and has been using Scaling Up, Gazelles and the Rockefeller Habits for several years. At the 2015 Fortune Growth Summit Ben started the conference telling the gathering of over 900 fast growth firms about how they wanted to create a referral culture within their business to drive organic growth, and how they decided to use a theme, from the Gazelles One Page Strategic Plan to do this.

Subsequently they decided to film a short video to drive employee and client engagement with this goal. The video, recorded to the song “Call me maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen aimed to generate 600 new business referrals in 12 months. If they succeeded, they would create another celebration video and the whole company would celebrate by going to the Hilton Waikoloa Village for a party.

The result was that ProService created 636 referrals – a 400% improvement on the previous years referral numbers. Says Godsey “The theme allowed the whole company to get behind a single goal which created amazing results and prompted us to create a celebration video and another 2 theme videos in the following years”

Once the company attained the goal at the end of the year, they created the celebration video below as a part of the theme to celebrate the success.

In the second year, ProService set the goal to exceed 20,000 worksite employees in the twentieth year and so a theme around the ‘Roaring Twenties’ was created. By the end of the year they reached 20,001 employees which seemed remarkable at the beginning of the year according to Godsey.

In 2015 ProService have set a space theme, demonstrating that they have ‘the right stuff” as shown in this theme video.

Once a company understands it’s number 1 priority it can share this and align all people in the business using a theme as illustrated by ProService Hawaii. A theme video  is a great way to bring the theme to life in a fun way and have team members excited and participate to achieve the company goals, as well as enjoy the celebration when the goal is achieved.
